ICF Peer Coaching FAQ

What is peer coaching for ICF coaches?

Peer coaching is a coaching exchange between two coaches: you coach your partner for a session, then your partner coaches you. ICF coaches use it to practice the ICF Core Competencies, experience the client side of coaching and build coaching hours. ExpertCoach.Co runs a free directory where ICF coaches and ACC candidates find peer coaching partners.

Is ExpertCoach.Co peer coaching really free?

Yes. Peer coaching is free with a free ExpertCoach.Co account. You do not need to buy a course, and there is no fee to join, send requests or meet other coaches.

Do peer coaching hours count toward my ICF credential?

Yes. ICF lists peer-to-peer coaching as a form of barter, which it counts as paid coaching experience. The ACC requires 100 coaching hours (at least 75 paid), the PCC 500 hours (at least 450 paid) and the MCC 2,500 hours (at least 2,250 paid). Coaching fellow students inside a training program does not count unless it happens outside the classroom, with a real client, separate from your training credits. Record each session in your ICF coaching log, and check ICF's experience requirements before you apply.

Do I need an ICF credential to join?

No. ACC candidates can join alongside ACC, PCC and MCC coaches. Your profile shows the credential you hold today, or ACC candidate if you are still working toward it.

How do I arrange a session with another coach?

Send a request with a short note from the directory. If the coach accepts, we share your email addresses with each other, and you agree on a time and a video tool directly.

Who can see my email address?

Nobody, until you and another coach both say yes to a session. The directory shows only your name, credential, city, time difference, intro and an optional LinkedIn link.
